What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is characterised as a holistic ‘whole medical system’ a science, philosophy, a practice of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illness.

The general philosophy of naturopathy is that expressions of health and/or disease are a reflection of the complex interplay between various body-systems. Naturopaths believe that Ill-health is the expression of some sort of disturbance in the body, be it physical, mental, social, environmental or even spiritual. When supported correctly, all individuals possess an inherent and self-regulatory ability to self-heal. Naturopathic practitioners aim to remove these disturbances, while also promoting the body’s innate ability to self-heal. This can be accomplished through patient-education, individualised treatment plans and the use of natural supplements and herbs.
